Wind, Bearing, or Coolant Noise?

Didn’t work, I believe I tried that months ago, tried driving down the street throwing into N on the overhead drive selection, noise was still there as well.

Here is my list of parts I’m thinking it’s coming from… not in any order but I’m leaning towards the super cowl and/or hvac.

Perhaps it's already been mentioned in this thread but the noise everyone is hearing is likely the same as that found in the large post on TMC:

We've personally owned six 3/Y since 2021. All 4 vehicles we've purchased since 2023 had this noise show up in cold weather after several thousand miles. FDU replacement didn't fix it. Our Model Ys were much worse than our lone Model 3. Tesla has no fix and often tries hard not to acknowledge it. Basically no one online has identified the exact source, though people believe it's electromechanical resonance.

The CT drive units are heavily based on Model Y, so it makes sense that it would suffer from the same noise, though it's certainly very disappointing. Someone needs to organize a class action suit because Tesla just keeps selling millions of these things that are dead silent on delivery but screech like nails on a chalkboard 8k miles later anytime its cold outside.

Thank you for chiming in as I did not realize this went beyond the cyber truck. Other than sounding annoying I wonder if it has any effect on long-term reliability?

As far as I know, even though it sounds like a bad bearing or some other metal on metal failure it doesn't seem to functionally impact anything. Aside from my sanity.

Keep in mind neutral in an EV doesn’t disengage the motor; it only prevents power going to the motor. The motor still spins. That’s why you’re probably still hearing the noise.

I don’t think it’s wind noise in my case.

• Noise is temperature dependent; once the motor is fully warmed up, noise is pretty much gone.
• Acceleration makes the noise stop instantly. Cruising, after accelerating, makes it come back just as fast.
• Once the noise starts at ~45mph, I’ve heard it down to ~20mph. If I keep it under ~35mph, noise doesn’t start.
• Throwing in a new motor did change the severity of the noise.

My 3s never made this kind of noise.

Also, in addition to temperature, or that Slippery setting to on, or acceleration, someone also mentioned when taking a curve to the left completely stops it also. This also works for me, get in between the 40-60 mph where this noise happens, take a good curvy road to the left, noise completely stops.

And since that sound seems to go away with Slippery setting on, and Tesla says it’s fine to always leave on, even if not slippery services because it auto adapts anyway, might just leave on and see if sound is always suppressed

Another update. They did another motor replacement and the sound is gone. They also mentioned that they repaired my demist ducts as they were not assembled correctly.

Would you mind sharing a screenshot of your invoice? I have a service appointment tomorrow and see they have the F version listed on the estimate to replace. When I brought up that this didn’t work for others and suggested the G version they told me that part isn’t currently available.

What day was it they put the G version in?
