I’ll be interested to hear the stated rationale for that choice

Hard to ascertain but it's possible they wanted to have both types of glass in the prototype for the test to see the difference in how they would perform, and also how sections of the Cybertruck structure itself might perform without augmented strength from stronger glass.

Time will tell whether they might've purposely had different types of glass, and what will ultimately be used in production. I'm sure most of us are hoping for strongest glass all around.

I'd be worried if they weren't using strong glass at all in prototypes, but at least in the rollover test they were intending to see how it performs. So to me that's encouraging but time will tell. Is the glass half full or empty?

I went back to the rollover thread, and was trying to find evidence that the rear might be normal tempered, almost looked like they were just rolled down as i didnt see any shattering. I wasnt inspecting super hard though.

My hope is that they have armor glass sides. Windshield could go either way for me though.

But have we seen any other rollover tests before this one? There might've been but if not, then this one would've been the first opportunity for Tesla to test the differences and make such comparisons. There could be many reasons they would do it this late, one of which is to simply validate the added befits of Armour glass itself?

Of course speculation here, but we have fun doing that, and ultimately time will tell.

My biggest takeaway? The side glass (Armor Glass?) appears to be about 3/8” thick. This does not appear to be normal thickness automotive side glass.

also, you wouldn't roll down the window for the test, and couldn't roll them down after the test

and conversely, the front door windows demonstrate what we'd expect to see with laminated glass

in any event...

I doubt they needed to test different glass types for the roll-over test. The windscreen and rear roof window, possibly the midgate and small front corner triangle windows too, are structurally integrated into the design, but the door windows would be neglected simply because there would be no guarantee of the open/close state in a roll over, even though normally they are all set to close on detection of imminent impact.

You'd also want to have tempered safety glass somewhere on the vehicle for emergency egress. Having them all armoured/bulletproof is actually a safety risk for normal every day users.
