when talking about 0-60, being below 3 seconds, he's talking about the 'performance' version

Rogan:
3.5 seconds?

Musk: we're aiming to get the 0-60 below 3 seconds

Rogan: below 3?

Musk: yeah. for the, you know, the beat mode version. so we've got a beast mode version. well I don't want to give it all away. there are thre demonstrations, one of which people are aware of, which is uh, you know, emptying a Tommy gun into the side of a car, uhm, a shotgun, a .45, and a none-mil, and no penetrations.

Rogan: wow.

Musk: and it's, it comes that way from the factory.
The unveiling was for the tri-motor trim. You are welcome to call it the performance version of the dual-motor trim if you wish but the rest of the world still sees the 2.9 0-60 as associated with the tri-motor trim. Along with the 500-mile range I might add. Not having either would be considered another trim altogether, let alone a failure to deliver on their claims. Personally I do not care about 2.9 0-60 because that is an insane acceleration in my book, but I was not the one who made the claims.

Noting that the glass is not 'bulletproof' is really just a disclaimer IMO, as there are so many kinds of munitions, piercing tips to concentrate impact, and the weight in grains. So it would be extremely difficult to make 'bulletproof' glass these days, as evidenced by how thick the glass is on the 'beast' limousine or in bank teller windows, convenience stores, etc.

I'm still hoping the glass is very strong and will be able to endure an impressive demo at some point.

He said bulletproof glass has to be too thick to be rolled down. So you could add bulletproof glass, but it would suck at the drive through.

90 lbs compound bow that shoots 520 grain arrows at 300 ft/second with a razor sharp broad head.
Correction, they just just said he had the 80lbs bow at the studio.

1000 lb difference can only be described (IMO) by ~70 lbs for tri motor vs dual and the rest on battery pack.
Nobody's said there's a 1000 lb. difference between trims. The VIN decoder indicates there may be one version that's between 8001 lbs. and 9000 lbs., and one version that's between 9001 lbs. and 10,000 lbs. GVWR.

That could mean that the difference of the two trims is anywhere between 1 lb., and 1999 lbs.

I don’t care about volume production, we already knew that. I want to know initial production rate. 5K a month? 10K a month?

Up to 7k lbs is pretty good
Yeah, the lighter the better (for range purposes), but what was the VIN decoder thing going on about H class and over 8,000 lbs, or did that include the hauling capacity combined with the vehicle weight?

CVWR includes: People, pets, payload, and tongue weight of any trailers you're pulling.

I think that included payload? I'm no vin wizard though lol

I don’t think the 0-60 time is that big a deal. It’s not necessary that a truck go that fast. 0-60 in 5 seconds for the dual motor would be amazing. I’m worried about huge vehicles that can move around with such quickness. We’re just asking for pedestrian deaths to rise, which are already way too high in the US.

Production of 200k/year still gives me hope for a sub-$70k, 500 mile range version. Albeit, probably available a year from now.

Well, first off, I do think the 0-60 time is a big deal. In fact, it's a large part of why I'm buying a CT. I'm well below that now on my current vehicles. And as a side note, "huge vehicles that can move around with such quickness" is not a direct cause of "pedestrian deaths". Washington DC has a terrible track record of vehicles v. pedestrians. And at the top of the vehicle list is.... BUSSES! Not exactly quick or nimble. I understand that you might see a correlation, but that doesn't make it a real correlation. One could argue that vehicles with crappy brakes is more of a threat. Or flat fronted vehicles. But the real, no-kidding, direct cause and effect reasons are; Drivers that don't pay attention and Pedestrians that don't pay attention. Fix those two, and you'll reduce pedestrian accidents and all auto accidents dramatically.

BTW, this also shoots the whole "OMG, the edges are so sharp, we're gonna kill pedestrians" argument. Busses aren't known for their sharp corners, and yet they are so lethal to the phone zombies when they are hit.

I’m not understanding what you’re disagreeing with.

Or maybe more to the point: *who*

I’m quoting Elon F*ng Musk who has never called what is coming out in Nov the tri motor.

He’s called it the ā€˜performance’ version, and now the ā€˜beast mode’ version

Take your pick, but while closing your eyes and acting like it’s still 2019 is your choice, it’s unrelated to whether the rest of the world is emotionally stable enough to move on
