Great information about PowerShare installation companies, pricing & configurations

This whole thing is confusing me, but I think I'm starting to figure it out.
Currently we have a home, solar, an old HPWC (solar and HPWC installed by Tesla certified installer...) in Colorado with Xcel.

We could go ahead and get the 3V installed. As I understand it this would give us home backup from the Cybertruck (although we probably need to also install the new HPWC on it). However I suspect that with a gateway 3V install:

• We expect a 30 second delay in each outage to wake up the truck
• Obviously only get backup when the truck is at home
• The solar can't charge the cybertruck for a multi-day outage
• This might cost us $2k to get installed after tax credit.

However if we (while waiting for our Cybertruck) arrange for a powerwall install... We have a quote for $16k to have a powerwall and Tesla switch installed (Xcel does the switch) which after rebates (Xcel gives a good rebate) is $4700. Then we don't need the gateway 3v at all (for which Tesla will rebate us $700 store credit as I understand it). That leaves a net cost of $4k for this option (maybe only $2k more than the non-powerwall solution) and fixes all of the above issues.

Have I got all that right?

Some owners might have Powerwalls at home that already include a backup switch (equivalent to Gateway) - does this mean they won't get the Gateway hardware that they are supposed to get with the FS?!

Has anyone tried to dispute not getting the PowerShare that you paid for?
I’ve had the Tesla assigned installer and another installer decline to accept my easy installation project. I am capable of safely installing the hardware myself, if I had the hardware. If I can’t find an installer, I will want the hardware because I want the home charging and backup capabilities. And again, I PAID FOR THE HARDWARE.

Been trying to find a way to dispute the PowerShare ineligibility decision but it’s rediculous that no one from Tesla support knows how to contact this super secret squirrel group. I’m trying to get a quote from a Tesla certified installer to prove to them that I’m eligible for the install. I prefer the PowerShare package vs the alternate supercharging package…

I've been very curious about the details around the Powershare. Who will install it, how much it will be, what it will entail, etc. I've been searching the internet for the past few weeks and finally think I have some good information to share. I've listed out the info below to make it easier to read. Let me know if you have any questions.

1. There are several companies quoting the PowerShare with 3V Gateway. The main company I found is called Smart Charge America. *Watch the video at the end of this post from Smart Charge America with more details on the 3V Powershare install for Cybertruck*

2. Sounds like there will be two options: 1. Whole home backup. In this case the 3V Gateway will go between your meter and your home panel and will power the entire home. They can exclude very large loads that the truck may not be able to power. 2. Partial Home Backup. This one is a little less clear on how the install will work. I think you have to option of installing it between the meter and main panel and then using the included circuit breaker spots in the Gateway to chose what to power OR or you might be able to power an existing subpanel with your backup loads already in it. I asked for clarification from Smart Charge America and I'm waiting to hear back.

3. Seems like installation can run anywhere between $2,000 - $6,000 on average depending on where your panel is, where the charger will be and other factors. This makes sense since Cyberbeast owners are getting a $4,000 credit which would be the average install cost.

4. *UPDATE* Per a recent email received from Tesla, the Powershare home backup software/firmware will not be available until June. So, you may be able to get everything installed, but you can't use it as a home backup until June when an updated software/firmware is pushed.

This information is as accurate as possible, but I'm not sure that all of it is 100% accurate. It's information I have found in several different sources and thought I'd share so some people have more information on this system and what to expect.

I have applied for permits myself in the past and paid about $50!!! The PowerShare Gateway will be installed 2-3 feet away from my electrical panel. And the Universal Charger will be offset on the opposite wall of the electrical panel. Is this a reasonable price, ***$6,128.00 USD***? Or am I being jacked, due to being a CT owner?

What are others paying for the PowerShare install? I am in tri-state.

I would like to minimize my expenses since purchasing this hot rod!

Ya 6k is just crazy town. Definitely not worth it at that price unless you have a crazy weird setup.

Hopefully your 14-50 conduit has enough room for a comm wire because the UWC needs that in order to talk to the Gateway. That’s the difference between the regular WC and the UWC and how they get PowerShare to work.
