You do realize the Chevy needs almost TWICE the batteries to achieve the range, right? It’s also made by a company that will be bankrupt (again) in the near future. Shameful posting Government Motors junk on this forum. ?

Someone else earlier said we should embrace the competition, because it makes all EVs better. This was a great statement. You don't need to like every EV personally, but it's hard to call the new Silverado junk when it's best in class in quite a few metrics.

I hear all the time "I won't buy an EV until it has over 500 miles in range or charges in the amount of time I can fill up my tank." Click on any EV article on Yahoo News and this comment comes up 100 times. We should be thankful someone is listening to these voices, to help for a zero emission future.

I am happy GM is doing something, but they are playing catch up. The pass through gate is nice. I wonder what the sound will be like at freeway speeds with an opening that large.

Lastly, paying $96+ tax for a Chevy Silverado is an interesting. I have been in a Silverado. It is a $50k truck at best in terms of quality. The TECH inside the cabin where it counts is a generate or two behind.

I think they will run into the same problem Ford is running into with the Lighting. They basically took a truck and removed the engine and put a battery on the bottom. The EV draw is not strong enough to get a Chevy owner to leave their gas powered truck...or not strong enough to ask for 2x the price. If you are going to ask for 2x over the gas powered truck, you need to take it to the next level.

I heard some of what you said but definitely not all.

The corollary comparison to this is that GM is doing *known* tech that people love like:
- HUD ** [I have friends that *love* this]
- Drivers display ** [S&X have, "cheaper" 3&Y do not]
- Rear view mirror e-display ** [many cars have this and is certainly not big $ and tech effort sense Tesla already does e-display taking up real estate.

Tesla cheapened out on this tech to cut corners and is still selling
FS $100K & $120K trucks at this point to the celebs, people with credits, people with $$$s, people that waited since 2019 and were chomping at the bit.

Don’t forget that Silverado will take more than 50% charge time compared to CT’s. It’s fun to talk about range until someone mentions charging time and battery size. Silverado batteries are 200+ KW, which is almost double that of CT. I love that Silverado has detachable rear windows. That feature is a huge plus compared to CT’s, but the battery size and charge time are deal breakers. What’s the point of 400 mile range when you have to wait for two hours for every pit stop during a road trip?!
As Elon said, the battle for range is silly, so it's why he lowered it from 500+ to 340 for the CT. He's right...the extra weight, the extra charge time, the extra cost, the sacrifice in cornering and acceleration performance due to the extra weight, simply doesn't make any sense when you think about it. 340 miles per charge is the sweet spot, you really don't want more than that.

Chevy is a huge company, do you want to support them so much that you won't by their product if it is not profitable to them?
Who cares if the truck looses money for Chevy, lots of their products do.

If it is a moral issue buy a 250mile range CT that Tesla will make a profit from.
If not and range is important a 400 mile Chevy makes way more sense.

If you want a work truck buy an ugly chevy with a ton of range and fast charging.

If you want a sexy sports suv buy a cybertruck with steer by wire and great audio.
That is not exactly the point when we talk about losing money. They won’t be able to make that many (so if you are lucky to get one, great!), and when they do they will be selling them for a loss at $94k, and then they will realize they can’t make them and slow down the EV side of things.. look at ford.. they just keep scaling back and not making EVs.. so then you have a cool truck that won’t be supported by its own company. You can bookmark this for about 2 years from now. It’s obviously and Ford is the OEM example. Lucid the EV example. Great specs, but will cost too much and eventually fade off

This is true. But the bigger point is how the Chevy “best in class” is all smoke and mirrors. Look at Ford Lightning. A pretty decent truck, but Ford can’t produce them for any profit and they are scaling back all EV production… same will happen to Chevy.. ya cool truck. But it will go away because they will be taking such losses to produce it and won’t be able to scale.. shareholders won’t like how the EV side of Chevy is taking away profits and it will fade away.. this sucks for EV transition… but it’s the business reality

Gentleman, waited as we all have 4 years for the CT. Now I see of all companies GM has come out with this 400 mi plus silverado along with some outstanding bed design features. If you have not watched the short video you should. Our man elon made a lot of promises and now here we sit with having to buy a $16,000 extra battery, FSD and auto pilot no one knows anything, can't even sell a vehicle I paid cash for. CT running into poles, screens going blank. They have been developing and testing this truck for 4 years. Believe me I am a fan own shares, a X signature, Starlink at my ranch. But as you might tell I am kind of pissed. Oh yes and now have to spend anywhere from $6-$10k for a wrap because of finger prints..Just saying starting to mount up. And before I forget my pickup day was poor to say the least and had to return it to repair rear bumper facia. Geez.

If history is any guide, GM will produce these in very small numbers. This is a slightly newer version of the Hummer. They literally threw batteries and motors at the problem. That's why it weight almost 10,000 pounds (40% more than the Cybertruck). That's also why it's "slow" (comparitively speaking) and lumbering.

In regards to someone else saying the Chevy is a big company and they'll support it, that is true. But there's one small thing in between: the dealer. You know, the one that doesn't want to sell these, and who will "service" them with that one tech who got sent off for training for that week. Ford Lightning owners know all about this.

The more EVs, the better! If you REALLY need to tow cross country or long distances, then this looks like it's your option. For everything else, I'd suggest you just wait for your Cybertruck...

CT will still attract the unique buyer, dont think that they compete
just saying
I agree, different market. But the RST does show how many features are missing from CT. Tesla minimalism if also "cheapism". Look at the work that Chevy put into the tailgate alone.

The original reason Musk claimed for CT was to attract the huge number of traditional truck buyers to EV. Like most things Musk in the last five years that is wishful BS.

I get it... Every new EV on the road is good bc it replaces an ICE, in theory. But for a post to come onto the Cybertruck Forum and claim that a Silverado blows away every metric is just a dumb-ass move. I do stand by my calling the Silverado junk… it’s heavier, less efficient, more expensive to produce, and made by GM — who is not at all serious about a zero emissions future. It does not make competition better, either, because it’s a poor example of what is possible.

Love the digital rearview, the fold down midgate, and the heads-up display. But range test? More like a demo drive. Speed/air-resistance is a HUGE factor in range. Every time they show the speedometer it was in the 50's. While driving downhill.

Nice HUD picture.
Definitely a mix. 50's downhill is not accurate.
Dan's video (link in first post) showed the display more.

When Zack was driving at one point in the video he was doing 78!

They'll figure out a way to screw it up. Sad that I have to feel that way.. but ... I'll believe it when I see it.
