I have zero budget constraints surrounding the purchase of any version of the truck and I still can not understand people foaming at the mouth to overpay for one asap knowing they are signing up for teething issues with the trucks and eating a mountain of depreciation in the process.
Some of us, like myself, have always been on the early adopter bandwagon. Just like with the iphone years ago and the early Model X's. Whether it's willing to pay more up front to have cool tech, to be the "cool kid" or both, those people are willing to take risks associated with early adoption.

I ordered my 3 motor cybertruck during the unveiling. My reservation number is "RN112749075". My friend ordered his 2 motor cybertruck 3 days after the unveiling, his reservation number is RN112800341. Which means he's 51,266 reservations down the line from me. He received notification yesterday (12/12) to configure his "Foundation Series" -Which I understand only 1,000 of them are being made. We both live in San Diego California. I'm super stoked for him that his reservation got pushed up from what should have been end of year next year, to now getting his, probably this month (December 2023). It seems Tesla is not following their own reservation order, which seems unfair to those of us who were further up in line. And of course, there is no phone number or email address you can reach where something like this could be addressed. Has anyone else had a similar experience? -very disappointed.
My RN is 11536744 I will be glad to get my 2 motor after the ramp up.

If you are a super early TX or CA reservation holder and not near a service center you probably won’t get picked for a configuration e-mail.

Tesla wants new model owners to be close to a service center for customer satisfaction reasons.

First year teething issues are a real thing. I see a ton of Cybertruck software updates coming down the pike as well.
I don’t think it’s merely near a service center

I think it’s largely near Fremont or Austin,** the only places that can do deep trouble shooting, or to which all the units can be brought back in if a build-wide reconnoiter is needed

**understanding some sprinkling of non-CA and non-TX invites have occurred, I think some are still well within range of Fremont (eg Reno, NV), and some others *may* be flukes or miss-matches

they could also just be exceptions to a general rule that, on the whole, Tesla would like most of these early units ‘nearby’ for more than just a service center

but, that’s wet finger in air talk

On the one hand, I want my truck.

On the other hand, I don't want to pay the "Foundation Tax"

Whoever said that two hands were better than one! Keep us posted which hand wins...

How’s this for Early Adopter credentials? I installed Windows Vista on my computer the day it was released!

(oh god I hope the first Cybertrucks go more smoothly than that ?)

hmm?

do you mean why not gamble?
Of course not :) Hope! Most of us will be waiting for some time so anything is possible.

btw, I live close to the Fremont factory - maybe I’ll get a call!!!

I hope you do!

I’ve come to *also* value your stress reduction!

if you’re going AWD, could be much sooner than if you go beast

Hmm I am probably the lowest reservation number on this forum and I live in Fremont, own two Tesla’s, a share holder, my account has all the correct address and what not… and I have received nothing, nada (except for the $1000 dollars off another Tesla while I wait). I am also friends with several Tesla engineers, they know nothing of reservations and what it means. Some program manager in Tesla is emailing blocks of early reservations is some sort of absurdly randomized method. Btw my reservation number is 112745xxx.

I am for the AWD. The beast doesn’t do anything for me.
